Frequently asked questions

How do I play?

A pane of coloured glass sinks down the window. The row of glass keys along the bottom chooses the column — touch a key to aim, slide across them to hear the run, and lift your finger to drop. The brass pedal below the keys drops the pane straight down from wherever it already is, without re-aiming. Fill every empty pane in the window to finish it.

I matched three of a colour and it went badly. Isn’t that the goal?

This is the one thing worth reading twice, because most puzzle games train the opposite instinct. Three of the same colour in a straight line shatters them — and in Shatterglass that is the cost, not the reward. Every window gives you a small shatter allowance, shown as marks at the top. Each shatter spends one. Spend them all and the window comes apart, and you start it again. The goal is to fill the window; the lines are what you are avoiding while you do it.

What are the marks at the top of the window?

Your shatter allowance for that window. Most windows allow exactly one shatter, so the second one ends the run — the last mark glows red when you are one away. A few of the larger windows are more forgiving.

Glass shattered that I did not line up.

When a line breaks, the glass above it falls down into the gap — and if it lands three in a row, that shatters too. A chain like this can run several times from one placement, and each wave spends another mark. Watching what is sitting above a line you are about to break is most of the skill in the game.

What are facets?

The small diamonds on each window in the Collection — up to three. One for completing the window, one for finishing without spending your whole allowance, and one for a flawless run with no shatters at all. Windows with a small allowance show fewer facets, because fewer outcomes are possible there.

The pane drops by itself before I have decided.

It sinks on its own, and lands when it reaches the bottom — that is the pace of the game rather than a fault. The first window is the exception: nothing moves until you touch it, so you can take as long as you like while you are learning. If a pane lands somewhere you did not intend, the pedal is usually faster than aiming: it drops in place, immediately.

Can I undo a placement?

No — there is no undo, and that is deliberate. If a window has gone wrong, open the menu and restart it; you lose nothing but that window’s progress.

How many windows are there?

100, arranged in 9 chapters, opening at The Nave and ending at The Chancel. They get harder gradually, with easier windows deliberately placed after the hard ones.

Do I need an account or an internet connection?

Neither. There is no sign-in, and the game plays fully offline.

Does the app cost anything?

No. Shatterglass is free, with no advertisements and no in-app purchases. All six glass palettes are available from the start, in Settings.

Can I turn off the sound or the vibration?

Yes — Settings has separate switches for sound effects, music and haptics. They are remembered.

How do I reset my progress?

Uninstalling the app clears everything the game has stored on your device. See Your choices in our Privacy Policy for the detail.

I lost my progress after reinstalling.

Progress is stored on the device only — it is not tied to an account and does not sync between devices, so deleting the app also deletes the save. We are sorry; there is no way to recover it.
